YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP IN THE NFL
YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP IN THE NFL
Ethan Hobbs
The things seen in this advertisement from the NFL were something that was a joke for the entirety of the 2022-2023 NFL season. Scripts! These scripts that were coming up as accusations against the NFL where they believe games were being fixed became a complete joke. This is where the NFL had to step in and go with the narrative of this joke going around, and they executed it.
The value proposition from the NFL isn't just promoting their up-and-coming 104th football season, it is to catch on the train which is this trend of sports having a script involved with them. They are promoting their value proposition in the most clever way which is their humor being used behind the scenes from what all the fans see.
The primary marketing strategy seen in this ad and article is to promote the football season coming up. This is seen as a marketing strategy or campaign with what they're promoting, they are also promoting their brand with multiple star players and characters involved in the NFL and sports as a whole; Jalen Ramsey being an example. This answers the "why" seen in the article and what the NFL is trying to do with this ad. Their "why" connects to what the fans notice and what they want to see more of, and this is the humor aspect of it containing their script.
The NFL already gets enough slack for a lot of things that happen inside and outside of their league but if it connects to it, they will get a lot of hate. This is a challenge they are trying to overcome and it is using humor and what their fans notice with the script and trying to make a fun joke out of it that a lot of people actually enjoyed a lot. The NFL doesn't have much competition so this is basically their own world that we are living in when they create content for us to view.
The thing that makes this marketing approach unique from anything that I have ever seen before is the idea they are getting and the way they execute it. This "script" the NFL has had for all of last season. I have never seen anything like this done before as it opens up doors for more companies to follow in their footsteps, a trend one could say and something their audience is fully aware of already.
I believe that this was a very strong way for the NFL to market its brand with both humor and trends with the current agenda, especially the younger audience due to its social media presence. As far as if I were to do anything, I wouldn't! As stated before, I believe that they executed this perfectly and I would not have changed a thing about it.
I learned how important it is to be on top of trends from your fans and implement them into marketing your brand. As well as incorporating humor into their promotions can help your brand and company make big strides in the message you want to convey to your audience.
